Chapter 2: Weekend Awakening

The winding road to the cabin seemed endless, but Sarah didn’t mind. It was a rare escape—just her and David, no kids clamoring for attention, no emails pinging her phone every five minutes. Yet, as the trees blurred past the car window, a familiar frustration bubbled up.

David’s job had him on the road again next week, another stretch of lonely nights in their big bed back home. Two weeks this time, he’d said apologetically over breakfast that morning. She loved his dedication, the way it provided for their family, but the absences were wearing thin. How many more nights would he spend away from her in distant hotel rooms before they carved out more time together like this?

She glanced at him now, his hands steady on the wheel, profile lit by the afternoon sun filtering through the pines. He caught her eye and smiled, reaching over to squeeze her knee. “Almost there. I can’t wait to unplug with you.”

Sarah returned the smile, but her mind lingered on the gaps his travels created. It wasn’t just the emotional distance; it was the physical ache that built up, night after night, until even her favorite blanket felt cold and insufficient.

Despite their best intentions, they hadn’t been intimate since that stormy Friday two weeks ago, when he’d finally come home from his previous trip. Work had swallowed the days since—his prep for the next trip, her deadlines, the kids’ school events. She craved him, the way only he could fill the void.

The cabin appeared around the final bend—a cozy log structure nestled against a backdrop of evergreens, with a stone chimney promising warmth. The air smelled of pine and earth, another reminder of what a far cry this trip was from their suburban routine. They unpacked quickly, laughing as David hauled in the cooler while Sarah arranged the worn leather couch.

After settling in, they laced up their hiking boots to explore a short trail nearby. The path wound through the woods, sunlight dappling the ground in golden patches. Hand in hand, they walked in comfortable silence at first, then playful banter emerged. David teased her about her “city girl” fear of bugs, and she retaliated by flicking a leaf at him. Laughter echoed off the trees, reigniting a spark that felt dormant amid their busy lives.

By the time they returned, cheeks flushed from the fresh air, the sun was dipping low. David suggested a romantic picnic on the deck, spreading out a blanket with cheese, crackers, fresh fruit, and a bottle of wine he’d packed. They sat close, knees touching, as he poured her a glass and fed her a strawberry, his fingers brushing her lips.

The gesture sent a thrill through her. But Sarah’s natural confidence stirred; she didn’t want to wait for the stars to come out. “This is perfect,” she said, setting her glass aside and shifting closer. “But let’s take it inside by the fire. I need to feel you, David. It’s been too long.”

His eyes widened slightly, then softened with understanding. “Whatever you want,” he murmured, helping her gather the picnic remnants.

Inside, the cabin’s fireplace crackled to life under David’s quick work with the logs. The room filled with a golden glow, shadows dancing on the walls. Sarah dimmed the lamp and pulled him down onto the thick rug in front of the hearth. They sat facing each other, knees touching, and she reached for his hand, tracing his palm with her fingertips.

“Remember our first weekend away?” she asked, voice low. “That tiny bed and breakfast, when we barely left the room?”

David chuckled, his thumb stroking her wrist. “How could I forget? You were insatiable. Still are.” He leaned in, capturing her mouth in a slow kiss that deepened quickly.

The stories flowed then—reminiscing about their early marriage, the stolen moments in cramped apartments, the way their love had grown through challenges. Each tale built anticipation, the air between them thickening with unspoken desire. Sarah’s touches grew bolder, her hand sliding up his arm, then under his shirt to feel the warmth of his chest.

“I’ve missed this,” she whispered against his lips. “I’ve missed us.”

The kissing escalated, hands roaming with increasing urgency. David tugged at her sweater, pulling it over her head to reveal the simple tank top beneath. She did the same to him, fingers exploring the familiar planes of his torso. They undressed each other slowly, savoring the reveal—her jeans sliding down her hips, his belt unbuckling with a soft clink.

Both naked now, their skin bathed in firelight, David caressed her everywhere: the curve of her waist, the swell of her breasts, the sensitive spot along her inner thigh. He whispered words of love, telling her how beautiful she was, how her body drove him wild. Sarah arched into his touch, her arousal building like the heat from the flames.

She nudged him onto his back, straddling his hips with a confidence born of longing. “I need you now,” she said, voice husky. “It’s been weeks, David. I can’t wait anymore.”

He groaned as she positioned herself above him, her hand wrapping around his length to guide him. She sank down slowly, inch by inch, feeling him fill her completely. The stretch was exquisite after so long apart, drawing a deep moan from her throat.

“Oh . . . yes . .. just like that,” she breathed, starting to move. Her hips rolled in a steady rhythm, hands braced on his chest for leverage.

David’s hands gripped her thighs, then slid up to her breasts, thumbs teasing her nipples until they tightened into hard peaks under his touch. He watched her face, adjusting his movements to match hers—thrusting up gently when she descended, creating a perfect friction that made her gasp.

“Harder,” she urged, her voice rising. “I need it deeper . . . please, David . . .”

He obliged, sitting up slightly to wrap an arm around her waist, pulling her closer. Their bodies moved in sync, skin slick with sweat, the fire’s warmth mirroring the heat building between them.

Sarah’s moans grew louder and unrestrained, the words tumbling out in her need. “Right there . . . don’t stop . . . ohhhh, you feel so good inside me . . .”

He focused on her pleasure, one hand slipping between them to circle the sensitive bud at the apex of her thighs. The added sensation sent her spiraling, her movements quickening as ecstasy built. When it hit, she cried out, her body trembling around him in powerful waves that left her shuddering and breathless.

David held her through it, whispering encouragements, his own control fraying at the edges. Only when her tremors subsided did he let himself thrust deeper, faster, until he followed her over the edge, groaning her name as he pulsed inside her.

They collapsed together on the rug, limbs entangled, hearts pounding in unison. The fire popped softly, making the only sound in the room besides their ragged breaths.

Sarah nestled against his side, her head on his shoulder. He pulled a nearby blanket over them, tucking it around her with care.

As the afterglow settled, she traced patterns on his chest and whispered, “I missed you so much these last weeks without this . . . without us connecting like that. We can’t let the travels and everything else keep us apart so long. We need to make love more often, David. Promise me we’ll find the time.”

He kissed her forehead, his arm tightening around her. “I promise. You’re everything to me, Sarah. We’ll make it happen—no more long stretches. Every chance we get, I’m yours.”

They lay there a while longer, then ventured outside for stargazing. Wrapped in the blanket together on the deck, David pointed out constellations, his voice a soothing rumble. “You complete me,” he said softly, affirming their bond under the vast sky.

The weekend had just begun, but already it felt like a renewal—a reminder that their love, in all its forms, was worth fighting for amid life’s storms.
